Objective: This course is designed to analyze and interpret the modern state and its relationality with modern societies within the framework of major theories of the state.
Content: This course has two main sections. In the fist section the focus point will be the rise of the modern state, its basic functions and specifications as well as the ruptures and continuities between the forms of pre-modern and modern states.The course then will focus on the three major theories of the state respectively, the liberal theory, the elitist theory and the Marxist theory.
